Why Is It Important to Take Care of Your Pet’s Matted Hair?

Cat Hair

Hi everyone, I hope that you and your adorable dogs are doing well. I hope that everyone is staying safe under the current circumstance. We discussed the frequent issue of ticks and fleas, particularly with our beloved dogs, in our most recent blog post. Today, we’ll discuss “Cat Matted Hair,” another prevalent issue that occurs during the monsoon season, as well as some hair care advice for your pet cat. During the monsoon, long-haired dogs and cats will begin to experience hair issues. Their hair begins to suffer if they go outside and get wet or simply if the air is very humid or moist. They will begin to exhibit matting or hair loss.

Handle the cat’s tangled fur.

Taking care of your pet’s hair is crucial. I can attest to this from my own experience with my Persian cat, Winnie, and Saint Bernard, Florence. Both of these breeds, as you are aware, have long hair, and their hair is prone to becoming tangled if proper care is not given. The two most prevalent issues with pets with long hair are matting and hair loss.

The Stressful Nature of Cats’ Matted Hair

Both the parents who care for their dogs and the pets themselves may experience equal levels of stress from mating. When hair gathers into a lump and adheres to it, it is called matting. It usually grows thicker or spreads throughout the pet’s body over time. Your dog or cat’s matted hair feels thick and hard to the touch, more like a doormat than a mat or rug, as the name usually implies.

The matted hair of my cat

If I don’t brush or comb Winnie’s hair frequently during the monsoon, it begins to mat. She used to scratch all over her body all day long because she felt so itchy, like there was a coat covering her that was only a centimeter thick. I made a lot of attempts, but I found it quite difficult to remove her matted hair. Then one day, with persistent scratching, Winnie herself was able to detangle the matted hair from close to her neck. I had a window of opportunity to help her because of that.

My Favorite Method for Resolving Cat’s Matted Hair

I experimented with a variety of brushes, combs, cutters, and scissors, but not all worked. Finding a space between the hair and the skin while holding the matted hair was the best method I could discover. I used to try to release the hair by carefully inserting a tiny comb into that space. The cat’s skin is extremely sensitive, so even the smallest amount of additional pressure while attempting to remove the matted hair caused her pain, so I had to exercise caution. I gradually removed the matted hair from all over her body, patch by patch. It took two long weeks of work, but when I noticed that she truly enjoyed how her hair was returning to its previous state, she was also pleased.

To make sure this doesn’t happen again, I now brush and comb her hair every day. Taking care of their pet’s hair is one of the most important things pet parents of long-haired dogs and cats should do on a regular basis. They will seem more attractive if you brush and trim them on a regular basis. It will also make you look like a proud father.
